2010 Karma Yoga

2010 Seva/Karma Yoga and Contemplation Program

yogaspace1The Tureya Foundation has just opened registration for the 2010 Karma Yoga & Program (June 5th-30th). This is a 3 week session in the month of June that revolves around self-development, internal growth, and the Pralaya (dissolving) of karma and negative thought patterns. It is offered free of cost once a year to a select number of students who are open to self development and sincere in their desires to reconnect with the nature and the world of spirituality.

The bases of this program are karma yoga and self contemplation. Karma yoga is the discipline of work or "action." In this practice of yoga, moksha (liberation) is received through the elimination of one's karma through work, that is, involvement in life and business. Essentially, if a person can work without viewing the results of their efforts as one of their own, then the results cancel part of their karma rather than adding to it. One form of karma yoga works as a version of achieve bhakti yoga , in which a person's actions are seen as a form of love and devotion to a divine being. Another form works as a version of achieving jnana yoga , in which one becomes detached from the work's results as one enters a deeper experience of their Atman .

The karma yoga for this program revolves around reconnecting with nature, a practice of respect and care for mother earth. In a general sense, contemporary society has severed its sensitive relationship with the natural world. Much of what we do as a global society is counterintuitive to the needs of nature. In order to rebuild humanities love, respect, and deeper connection to mother earth, our karma yoga duities for the Seva and Contemplation Program are centered on reconnecting, rebuilding, and reuniting with the Divine in nature.

The other aspect of this program is contemplation. The modern mind has developed a common tendency to ‘push aside’ life challenges, painful emotions, and insecurities. We rarely confront or awaken these repressed feeling and thoughts which over time accumulate into emotional complexes, mental instability, anxiety, stress, and laziness. With over 20 acres of mountainous forest, the Tureya Ashram is an ideal environment for turning inwards, reexamining, and nurturing our inner emotions, thoughts, feelings, and experiences. In doing so we are able to develop a sensitive awareness to the subtle and profound needs of our mind, body, and spirit.

Overview of Details for the Program

  • 2Seva/Karma Yoga: The karma yoga service is based almost entirely around reconnecting and learning from nature. The primary activities include caring for, expanding, and understanding nature. Examples of activities are: gardening, tree planting, learning to grow plants from seeds, and plant care.
  • Meditation: Independent meditation practices form the framework for self growth. Once every week guided meditation is provided to build the foundation for the rest of the week’s practice of meditation. Each week we will be adding another layer to the practice which take us deeper into the experience of the internal dimension of life.
  • Contemplation: The rest of the student’s time is left open to self-reflection/contemplation. This evolves: reading, writing, hiking, reflecting, and any other activity that generates creativity and expand internal awareness.
