About the Tureya Foundation
The uniqueness of the ashram is expressed through the community's commitment to every student who visits the ashram. Just as a family supports every member, the Tureya community views every student and guest as a part of our spiritual family. With this belief at heart, the ashram and the foundation is fully committed to each individual to ensure their greatest health, spiritual growth, and wellness. Both in the ashram environment as well as within the community service projects every individual is viewed as a unique and special contributor to the spiritual growth and stability of the community. Therefore, particular focus is given to providing students with the best environment to discover their creativity, joy, and harmony.
One of the more substantial qualities that distinguish the Tureya ashram from other ashrams is the fact that we significantly regulate the number of students at the ashram at any given time to ensure that each student has the freedom and opportunity to both interact with the ashram residents and teachers as well as have the space necessary to contemplate the deeper aspects of spirituality in silence and natural serenity. Located on the outer edge of Kodaikanal, the ashram’s environment is peaceful and isolated from the distractions of urban noise and activity. Primarily a farming area, the ashram is well removed from city life, making it an ideal place for spiritual transformation and self-reflection. However access to the main city in Kodaikanal is only 20 minutes away by vehicle and students will typically visit once a week to purchase their personal items and communicate with their family and friends.
The Tureya Foundations charitable activities are continually supported by ashram residents and guests, and continue to expand annually in order to help a larger community suffering from poverty, gender inequality, and social injustice. Like any non-profit organization, the Tureya Foundation provides the majority of it resources to help expand social service work as well as develop the facilities available for spiritual seekers. Nearly everyone working at the ashram is on volunteer basis, allowing the foundation to use it resources for the most good and the most benefit to others. This is because spirituality is based upon community, selflessness, and compassion, the key characteristics that define the Tureya foundation, ashram, and community. If you would like to learn more about some of our non-profit activities, please visit either the service and donation pages or visit our associate organization the Cohen Foundation in India at http://www.cohenfi.org/.
About the Ashram in Kodaikanal
The Tureya Ashram will typically only admit 15-20 students into the ashram at one time. We do this to ensure the quality of the ashram environment and also to preserve the natural surroundings of our ashram. The ashram is located in the middle of one of the forests in Kodaikanal, and is adjacent to some of the natural parks within the Western Ghatts Mountain Range. The tradition of ashram living requires that the spiritual aspirants live amongst nature, and for this reason we work hard to preserve our environment and the quality of our surroundings.
Another reason why we maintain the restriction on the number of students is to ensure each student receives the personal attention they need to develop their spiritual life. We maintain the tradition of the guru-disciple relationship at the ashram, and Swamiji is usually present to help guide students on a personal basis with their Sadhana (spiritual practice). This would not be possible if more students were admitted into the ashram.
The ashram usually offers one course per month. The average class size for the courses is 5-15 students. If you wish to join one of our courses please contact us for the dates. Retreats are administered monthly and are usually designed around the individual needs and requirements of the guests.
As we do maintain a limited number of students who can study at the ashram each session, registration and acceptance into the ashram prior to arrival are required. Not every student is admitted into the ashram as we typically only accept those who are committed to their personal growth and transformation. If you have any questions about our registration process, please visit our Contact Us page.
