Ashram Rules

The Tureya ashram is an open, loving, and spiritually minded community. However we take spirituality very seriously, and have to enforce some rules in order to help preserve our commitment to spiritual growth and development. The ashram exists for the sole purpose of spirituality and community support. The ashram does not wish to be commercial, nor does it seek the approval of a spiritual standard that exists today regarding yoga. Rather, we pursue spirituality in a way that is practical, transformative, realistic, effective, and based upon the ancient spiritual tradition of India. None of the teachings at the ashram are founded upon illusions or emotional sensations, and we do not encourage this type of yoga. This is because spirituality must happen on a deeper level, one that is lasting and always expanding. Therefore we welcome students who are interested in spiritual growth and are willing to test their mental, physical, and spiritual limits. Then only spiritual growth is possible.

Some of the major rules enforced by the ashram include:

  • Absolutely, under no circumstances, is drug use permitted (outside of prescribed medication). Individuals caught using drugs will be expelled from the ashram immediately without any consideration. (Please note that the ashram does welcome students for drug rehabilitation, however there can be no drug use during the stay).

  • Alcohol use is not permissible within the ashram grounds and should not be used during a stay at the ashram or retreat.

  • Any individual displaying sexual perversion or activities that deliberately violate another student’s personal boundaries will be removed from the ashram.

  • Every foreign student visiting the ashram must present a valid passport and visa in order to be enrolled into the ashram. Also, the ashram does require a copy of both of these in order to register foreign students with the local authorities.

  • Illegal activities of any kind are not permitted, and individuals participating in such activities will be expelled without question.

  • Individuals who are violating another student’s freedom to explore their spirituality will be given a warning. If the problem persists the individual will be asked to leave the ashram.

  • The ashram is neither a hotel nor a resort. Accommodations are provided for spiritual growth, self-reflection, and inner-wellness. Those who abuse the ashram and it facilities will be asked to leave.

  • Registration and acceptance into the ashram is mandatory prior to arrival at the ashram. All students that 'drop-in' will be asked to leave.

  • Ashram gates close at 6pm. No new arrivals are allowed after 6pm. All students outside of the ashram after 6pm will not be permitted back inside (excluding extenuation circumstance).

  • A majority of the lessons taught at the ashram are direct towards the unique characteristics of the student. We do not seek to institutionalize the teaching nor do we wish to mass produce lessons on how to become a better ‘yogi.’ If you have any questions or concerns about our teaching style and practices please consult us before attending the ashram.
