Healing and Restoration

healing and restorationModern-day society's strains, stresses, and noise have created a large number of psychological disorders as well as physiological problems. While some people are able to manage the overabundance of situations which provoke anxiety and tension, the majority of us need a "time-out" to recollect ourselves. We enjoy time off to look at ourselves and assess the qualities and factors that make us who we are. We also want to discover and sustain happiness in our daily lives as it is such an inherent factor in physical and psychological health.

The purpose of a retreat is not to simply escape the situations that are difficult or troublesome. Rather, it is a place to find solace, deep connection and refreshment for our souls. We take time to observe who we are and learn more about ourselves. In doing so, a positive shift occurs within us as we begin to see the deeper aspects of our being. Self-realization is not a light switch that one day is off and the next day is on. Instead, it is a gradual process of revelation through which we begin to understand the beauty of life and existence as well as our connection to nature and the finer elements of the universe.

Significant changes in our lives or profoundly disturbing events can bring about large amounts of stress and anxiety which affect both our minds and our bodies. As long as we remain unaware of the inner resources that are available to us, we will continue to suffer from the constant fluctuations of the world we live in. This includes family, jobs, relationships, and just about any other event that can occur in life as they all have the potential to create both happiness and sorrow. Unfortunately the vast majority of people tend towards sorrow and suffer greatly from this.

A retreat at the ashram, based upon healing and restoration, is designed to help improve our quality of awareness and control over the elements which affect our lives. Yoga teaches us how to observe the things that are happening both outside and inside of us so that we may find balance and joy, regardless of the events that occur in our lives. Have you ever thought about it before? Happiness, sorrow, laughter, tears; they are all results of an internal response. While someone may curse us or say bad things in our name, our reaction to this is ours and ours alone. Yet the vast majority of us remain victims of situations. In yoga we learn to observe and control the qualities of our thoughts and actions to stimulate joy that is lasting and unaffected by any event whether positive or negative.

healing and restorationEach and every one of us is filled with immense prosperity, but this wealth is internal and can never be taken away. Finding joy and peace is easy as long as you know the techniques which will bring out these qualities. Yoga teaches us how to connect with ourselves on deeper levels so that we can effectively create our own perception and experience of life; the benefit of this being greater happiness, greater joy, and greater health.

In modern yoga we do not demand or make it a necessity to renounce life; instead we suggest ways in which life can be enjoyed and appreciated no matter what the living situation may be. At the ashram we don't expect students to renounce their families and divorce themselves from their homes and jobs, but rather encourage them to find a way to live in this world with greater understanding and greater appreciation for life. By practicing yoga and gradually modifying our daily lifestyles, we can begin to experience the true beauty of life that exists within each and every one of us.

The healing and restoration retreat is designed to provide students with training and knowledge on how to reshape and reform our daily lives so that we may bring out the finer qualities of life. Yoga is about being joy and compassion, and the easiest way to do this is through self discovery. Through individual guidance as well as self contemplation, students who visit with the intent of healing and restoration will find the peace and realization that they seek.

Our daily lifestyle at the ashram is designed to help cultivate these qualities of happiness and mindfulness. Even after staying for one week students have found significant benefits from studying at the ashram, finding the energy they needed before returning to their country and their daily lifestyle at home. Of course we always welcome students back as yoga is a continuing process and the potential for joy is limitless.
