Transcendental Life Training

What is the most practical aspect of spirituality? It teaches us how to live in the world. There are many sciences to study, many experiences to be had, but rarely are we given direction in how to conduct our lives in a manner that is proactively supporting the multidimensional nature of life itself. What contemporary society has missed is the inscrutably vital study and training in selfhood.

There are many direct and indirect methods of life training. It can also be said like this: life can be created consciously or unconsciously. Going to a university to become an artist is part of a conscious life training to become an artist. But such trainings are usually incomplete; they are isolated selections of tools for developing specialized skills but they do not teach us how to be a unified being.

And how does an unconscious life training appear? Someone who is a victim of circumstances and a subject of social conformity is unconsciously conditioning their life. They dress a certain way because others said they should; they act a certain way because that’s what people expect; they do the things they do because someone else said that this is the way things should be done.

Most people have a life that is mixed between conscious designing and unconscious submission. But conscious designing alone is not enough to bring life into a satisfactory state of wellbeing. In order for conscious life training to be effective our actions must coincide with the governing laws of life which together create the psychology, physiological, environmental, sociological, and spiritual components of life. It is the cultivation of the human experience.

This is where yoga becomes a practical science for holistic wellness and life-intuitive awareness. Yoga, as most will know, means union. But for union to manifest, conscious training must be coupled with Truth. Truth is the indisputable essence of reality. Objectivity is good, but Truth is a state beyond the qualitative observability, a transcendence of the observable and the observer. Yoga is a science of transcendence.

Conscious life training in the dominion of yoga is training in the holistic harmonization and consolidation of the many facets that make up the dynamisms of life. Every atom has a nucleus. Likewise every feature of life shares a common core. By approaching life with awareness of the shared essence, life itself becomes a collaborative effort towards balance, resonance, and transformation.

In life, that which has value is that which can be applied. Yoga as a philosophy is nothing if it does not have something to offer humanity. Fortunately, for thousands of years yoga has proven itself as a practical tool for cultivating a meaningful, purposeful, balanced, and blissful life. Its success as a life training system has been proven in its vitality through human evolution, surviving the test of time even despite the changes in humanities collective consciousness. Yoga is a truly science of life!

Within the Context of the Gurukul Immersion

Swami Tureya, our ashram’s guru, is a soul of versatility. The program which we organize under the heading of the Gurukul Immersion take on many different colors, shapes, and personalities as a means of facilitating the diverse needs of the students visiting the ashram. Spirituality is never measured linearly: it is not a timeline event where one thing precedes another. Spirituality is better envisioned as a three dimensional web where moments in the past collaborate with moments that have not even occurred which together create our state of being.

Though all of our programs are orchestrate as life training programs, the Gurukul Immersion with the focus in Transcendental Living accentuates the needs for implementing new constructive and spiritually supportive habits into life which together work to generate a new sense of being.

Spirituality from every part of the world speaks of a rebirth. Christianity describes a rebirth in Christ; and Buddhism alludes to a transformative state of becoming a Buddha. In yoga we have two types of rebirth: one is the rebirth of a spirit between bodies which is called transmigration. The other is the rebirth of the mind and energy which is called transcendence. Yogic life training is concerned with the later expression of rebirth; it is the reconstitution of thoughts, behaviors, actions, emotions, and energy to create a life that is align with the universal self.

Undertaking the spiritual rebirth requires a new design for the patterns which form our body, energy, mind, and spiritual awareness. Every single person who has entered into the spiritual path can agree upon one thing: the life experienced in the past is not complete. A sense of completeness is only possible when we tune and balance our multifarious features of life with the center of our being, and that center is spiritual in nature.

Where most people fail in their spirituality is at the point spiritual rebirth. Spiritual rebirth requires a transcendental movement beyond our old ideas, beliefs and perceptions. We must take a quantum leap into a new dimension of consciousness.

Every quantum leap requires an openness in consciousness and a willingness to let-go of the past. It can occur to anyone at any point in their lives, but rebirth can only occur when we have died to our old concept of self. Just as the soul reincarnates in a new body after death, the mind and awareness can only be reborn when the past is no longer of significance.

The Gurukul Immersion within the context of Transcendental Life Training is a breeding ground for rebirth. Needless to say we do not promise a quantum leap in consciousness as this is not up to us: it is a relationship between your consciousness and the divine. But through we guidance of Swamiji, the soil of the mind and body can become fertile ground for life transformation. This is the heart of the Transcendental Living Program.
