Lodging and Residence
The Tureya Ashram's campus is comprised of more than 15 acres of natural forest land, with the residential building situated at the top of the mountain overlooking the Elephant Valley of Kodaikanal. The residential building is the primary facility for students staying at the ashram, and all facilities are provided including comfortable beds, heated water, western toilets, and all other facilities necessary for the mountainous environment. When students are not participating in daily classes and activities, they are free to explore the full area of the ashram environment which includes natural gardens, organic farming groves, and the wild river which runs through the ashram.
Spiritual living is easily realized when we are in nature. Like an orange growing on an orange tree, human beings have more freedom to expand their consciousness, awareness and creativity when they are at peace amongst their true environment. Only within the last one hundred years has humanity adapted to the compacted, over-crammed settings of mega-cities where skyscrapers and pollution have replaced trees and fresh air. By returning to nature, we are retuning our minds and bodies to an environment that has been a part of humanity for millions of years. It is within this setting that we can find harmony and balance without much difficultly, especially when accompanied by spiritual practices and techniques.
The claim "spirituality should be found in the turmoil of life" is not fundamentally wrong, but does not take into account the fact that the vast majority of people do not have a perfectly balance mind, body and spirit to approach the spiritual practices without being carried away by minute annoyances and distractions. While the life of spirituality can experienced anywhere at anytime, spiritual aspirants benefit most from a natural and peaceful environment when they begin to explore their inner life. After establishing a foundation in the spiritual life, students can return freely to the busy world of modern day living without being disturbed or losing sight of the blissfulness within their hearts and minds. But a natural setting is always the most ideal place for a human being to live; our genetic code and construct is designed to live in nature.
At present, Tureya Ashram has a variety of housing options for guests and disciples, each designed to accommodate students' needs to ensure that they stay healthy, clean, and safe. While we recommend students should stay in our residential building, there are also adobe style houses that are available to students on special occasions.

These adobe style houses constructed from mud, brick, and thatched roofing are made to support a pure and natural setting for yogic practices. These homes provide our residents with a sensation of simplicity, connecting them with the earth and their inner spirits. Although we support all modern lifestyle, Tureya Ashram is an environment designed to simplify the external life to enhance the inner life. These ashram facilities are warm and homey, providing comfort and relief from modern living which is often times overloaded with stress and anxiety. We also have many meditation coves to give people privacy for their contemplative practices, finding peace amongst the stream banks or sitting atop the meditation bolder overlooking the valley.
Three meals a day are provided to all ashram guests, students, and residents which includes an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, some of which are grown on the ashram grounds including guava, jackfruit, bananas, tomatoes, carrots, oranges, and many others are available to all guests on a seasonal basis. A natural underground spring provides pure cooking and drinking water, but we also supply purified drinking water from companies like Aquafina (pepsi co.) for additional health precautions.
Traditional South Indian Sattvic style of food is served with a variety of sauces made from a unique blend of Indian spices and herbs.
We strive to provide nourishing, clean, and tasty food that will give you a chance to experience Indian cuisine while also maintaining a very health and safe diet.
