Curative and Holistic Yoga Therapy

The word therapy comes from the Greek word Therapeia which meals healing. This definition is quite accurate in describing the process of Curative and Holistic Yoga Therapy which aims at ‘healing’ the imbalances that are formed within the mind and body that lead to stress, anxiety, and many other mental and physical disorders.

Therapy as a practice is generally conscious of the natural dispositions of the body and mind, and unlike western medicine which tends towards the use of invasive measures like surgery and drugs, therapy usually addresses mental and physical complication through the use of nonintrusive curative techniques like body stimulation and mental balancing.

However, in similar relationship to just about any methodology that is devised by a certain goal or vision, therapy is usually an actuation of a specific ideological observation of how the mind and body exist in relationship to the individual and the world they live in; if the philosophical ground work or ideological context of the therapeutic system is purely empirical than the methods which are applied for healing are primarily physical in nature. Healing through physical intervention include physical manipulation, exercise, diet, and even medication when necessary.

Curative and Holistic Yoga Therapy (CHYT) is also grounded upon a philosophical system, but unlike the empirical therapy CHYT practices the belief that there are distinctly unique aspects of the human being known as the mind, body, and spirit which must be address based upon their own dynamically distinct traits; the physical body requires nurturing, the mental body needs intuition and cultivation, while the spirit waits to be awakened and revealed. It is for this reason that a complex range of techniques and practices have been invented by ancient healers who knew and understood the importance of treating aspect of the individual as an entity that required specialized care and treatment.

Therefore the underlying intentionality of CHYT is to create yoga or unity within the human being. Harmonious communication between the various facets of the human being is essential for a holistic and healthy life.

As an integral system which is both curative as well as sustaining, the application of CHYT is multifaceted. Generally CHYT is used to treat and cure physical and psychological complications which have arisen from disunity in life. These complications can be as simple as a common cold and as advanced as manic depression.

CHYT can also be used to improve general health and well-being, and can be applied as preventative practices from future mental and physical disorders. CHYT is a complementary or alternative treatment modality which is quickly gaining integrity in Western science as a credible form of healthcare.

For the practicing CHYT Therapist, CHYT can help individuals bridge the gap between their personal career and their spiritual life. In yoga, lifestyle practices should compliment ones spiritual practices and beliefs. By pursuing the practice of CHYT, one is given the opportunity to practice spirituality on a continual basis and also help others by offering natural alternatives for health and wellness. CHYT combines ancient yogic wisdom with contemporary therapeutic practices. This combination allows for CHYT to be an effective, sustainable, natural, and realistic practice for mental and physical healing.

Yoga Therapy Class of 1995CHYT has been practiced in India for thousands of years. It is only recently, however, that it has become a disciplined in and of itself. This is due to the fact that qualification is needed in order to apply CHYT in contemporary society. By specializing in CHYT, students gain professional knowledge as well as self-developed insight into human anatomy, physiology, naturopathy, and psychology, all of which helped them to become competent yoga therapists.

CHYT is not an invasive practice, nor does it require medication or special machines. Rather, CHYT simply helps clients and individuals listen to their body and gain insight into the changes that are occurring within them. Through body wisdom, clients are able to perceive the underlying emotions or feelings which are often directly correlated to physical pains or strains within the body, gaining the power to control their bodies and their emotions. In yoga, we believe that knowing the body is the first step to understanding the path of healing and wellness. By receiving training in CHYT we are becoming qualified therapists who can help others in the process of self healing and transformation.
